El Dorado has been one of my favorite hops since it showed up on the scene. While it does have the ability to be the center of attention, I’ve always loved in in a supporting role, especially in the right circumstances.

While the origins of El Dorado seem to be kept on the downlow, it’s said to be one of the original off shoots of Neomexicanus subspecies. It imparts huge tropical aspects (think pineapple/mango) along with some green skinned fruit (watermelon/pear/light apple). Its high Alpha content really allows it to play across the board as a dual purpose hop and El Dorado really plays well with every “cheater” hop. It’s also one of my favorite hops to use as a heavy whirlpool add and is an outstanding choice to use along with other hops as a dry hop boosting partner.

Whatever you do, don’t forget about El Dorado. It belongs in the very regular repertoire along with all of the rest of the cool hops!
